Tropical Christmas Tree
Here's a recipe perfect for sharing with your family at Christmas!
Ingredients
2 sheets of frozen puff pastry
1 cup of grated cheese (either cheddar or edam)
200gm of ham
1 tin of Dole pineapple slices in juice
1 egg
Tomato sauce to serve.
Method
1. Remove pastry from packaging and thaw.
2. Once thawed, roll out your pastry and divide into two evenly sized sheets.
3. Cut the pastry into the shape of a christmas tree. Repeat with the other sheet so that both match.
4. On top of the pastry, lay out the cheese, pineapple, and ham. Note: reserve a half handful of cheese which will be used for the top of the pastry.
5. Place the second sheet of pastry on top so that it is directly over the bottom layer.
6. Along the edges of the Christmas tree, make vertical cuts towards the middle so that you create 'branches' on the tree. Make sure the filling stays inside the brands. Note: leave about 1-1.5 inches of pastry in the middle to create the 'trunk' of the tree.
7. Crack the egg and whisk, then, using a pastry brush, brush on the egg wash onto the top of the pastry.
8. Sprinkle on the remaining cheese.
9. Place in an oven on fanbake for 20 minutes, or until the pastry has puffed up, the cheese is melted, and is golden brown on top.
10. Serve with tomato sauce.
